Our extensive travel program reflects the concept of Classrooms without Walls. While these trips augment aspects of the curriculum, their greater effect is to connect the students to culture outside their familiar boundaries, and provide expansive experiences for mind and soul.
New York Trip: The ninth and eleventh grades complete their blocks in History through Art and History through Music (respectively) with a week of museums, music and theatre. Accompanied by school directors and alumni, they negotiate ‘The City’ by subway, sample ethnic cuisine, and spend their days in the Met, the Frick, MOMA and other galleries. Evenings are filled with Broadway plays and the Metropolitan Opera. Juniors also attend rehearsals and meet members of the New York Philharmonic.
Native American Trip: The tenth grade travels to Ute Tribal Park in southwestern Colorado as part of their Native American block. They ride horses, camp in the canyon, and explore the magnificent Anasazi lands and culture with a Native guide.
Geology Trip: The tenth grade Geology block ends in a trip to Glenwood Springs. Students continue their lessons, go caving, ride bikes and visit the fabled hot springs.
World History Trip to Europe: A Tara education culminates in a month-long trip to Austria and England. In Vienna, London, Stratford and Cornwall, seniors get a chance to experience firsthand the history, art, music and architecture they’ve studied. As part of a culturally rich and varied itinerary, the group, led by Tara directors, stays in historic inns and homes, enjoys theatre, concerts and opera, and visits museums, abbeys, flea markets and even Merlin’s cave.
